Folks, I am in need of some purflings like what you see here in this VERY FINE example of one MR Gerald Sheppard's guitar!
I know I can order a boat load form Gurian, but I really just need enough for two guitars.

Gerald makes a nice lookin' git, eh? He had a real stunner of a BRW guitar at the Newport show. There was a line to look at it when I walked by. |

I have some Lance, How much do you need? Mine are just individual strip but I have red & black. I think they are .020" x .9", the black are long enough to go completely around most guitars and the red are only half lengths. |

I have them also Lance in Black and Red Fibre. They are 65 inches long, 0.020 thick and .2 high. Shane |

Lance, the guitar I'm working on right now has the same purfling. I also saw this pic from Geralds site. I contacted him, and he was nice enough to tell me that he makes his own from veneer sheets purchased at LMI. I Purchased them, made them, and now I make all my own as needed. I keep all color veneers on hand. It's so easy. The sheets come approx. 36"x10"(?), and what I do is with an exacto knife, cut the red, blk,veneer strips as needed, and use tightbond #2, then glue up the combination. I use #2, because when I bend them in the fox bender, the heat water may break the bond with regular titebond. I then clamp them between two four foot levels with wax paper. depending on how many purfs you need will determine how wide to cut the veneer strips. After dry, just cut them with a straight edge with an exacto. I also cut my binding stock the same width as the veneer strips, and sandwich glue the whole thing up at once. Then when dry, I cut the bind/purf's on the bandsaw, and then thickness sand, and you get perfect bindings and or purflings each time. Piece of cake. Try it and you won't do it any other way. |

I'd guess those lines are 0.010" not 0.020" just in case you're after that exact look. Gurian will make them up any way you like, of course. Nice guit! |

LANCE, PARDON MY IGNORANCE, BUT EXACTLY WHAT IS IT THAT YOU POSTED IN THE PICTURE. i KNOW IT'S PURFLING/BINDING. IS IT NATURAL WOOD OR MAN MADE FABRICATION. WHAT IS IT CALLED IN THE EVENT I WOULD LIKE TO BUY SOME? Thanks Lance, walter
